Alibi joined the Lab as a Research Assistant in June 2025. Working at Lab @ DDOT in the District Department of Transportation, he focuses on developing equity-aware machine learning models for estimating daily bike ridership volumes across the District. Additionally, he helps with laying the groundwork for the project on data-driven causal evaluation of the impact of corridor improvement projects by DDOT.
This is the second time Alibi has worked with DDOT. In 2023, he joined the DDOT as a Transit Operations Data Analyst Intern and led the deployment of the analytics platform that provided the DC Circulator team with real-time transit operations data feeds.
Concurrently, he is pursuing his Ph.D. in Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Maryland, College Park specializing in transportation planning, urban economics, housing, and data science. As the researcher at the National Center for Smart Growth (NCSG), he led statewide research initiatives such as the Maryland Commuter Survey and the Maryland Commuter Tax Credit Program. He is also teaching the graduate course in quantitative research methods.
Alibi holds his bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and master’s degree in Urban Planning from a top research institute in South Korea, Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST). When not at the desk, Alibi enjoys watching his favorite football team Chelsea FC, a team he supports for over 20 years, and traveling around the country and abroad.
