Alyssa Huberts is a Social Scientist in the Lab @ DC, where she brings her passion for cities and causal inference to local research projects. She is especially passionate about “everyday” urban services like buses and trash collection, which residents might not always think of as government.
Prior to joining the Lab, Alyssa studied urban service provision in Mexico City and partnered with Allegheny County in Pennsylvania on a research design supporting low-income mothers. Her research in Mexico focused on how citizens and local politicians address increasing challenges in the piped water supply. Alyssa believes in the “right method for the right question,” and has used field surveys, web-scraping, interviews, and quasi-experimental designs in her research. She has also worked for the InterAmerican Development Bank and Ashoka Social Entrepreneurs.
Alyssa holds a Ph.D. in Government from Harvard University and a BSFS in International Political Economy from Georgetown University. When not working, Alyssa can be found chasing her family around Rock Creek Park or growing vegetables in her back alley.
