Amelie (Amsie) Hecht is a Senior Social Scientist with the Lab @ DC. She partners with city agencies and residents to develop, implement, and evaluate evidence-based policies and programs. Her current projects focus on public health, education, and social services.
Prior to joining the Lab in 2022, Amsie served as a National Poverty Fellow in residence at the Office of Planning, Research, and Evaluation in the US Department of Health and Human Services. She previously held positions at the University of California, San Francisco, where she contributed to studies on health promotion in schools and childcare centers, and as an AmeriCorps member at Salud Family Health Centers, where she served as a patient care navigator. At the core of Amsie’s work is a commitment to using evidence to advance equity.
Amsie holds a Ph.D. in Health Policy and Management from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and a B.A. in American Studies and Community Health from Tufts University. When not working, you can find Amsie training guide dogs, on a quest to find the best pizza in DC, or hiking any mountain within driving distance.
