Leon Mait is a Social Scientist with The Lab @ DC, where he helps develop, implement, and evaluate evidence-based policies and programs. He works with city agencies and other partners on projects related to economic prosperity, housing, and education.
Prior to joining The Lab in 2025, Leon worked as a researcher at Omni Institute, conducting needs assessments and program evaluations in partnership with local governments and non-profits. He also served as an AmeriCorps member at Montgomery Housing Partnership, where he helped run and evaluate programs for residents living in affordable housing. At the core of Leon’s work is a commitment to using research to advance equity. As a DC-area native, he is passionate about improving the services and quality of life for people in his community.
Leon holds a Ph.D. in Psychology & Social Policy from Princeton University, an M.S. in Behavioral Science from Radboud University, and a B.A. in Sociology from the University of Maryland, College Park. When not working, you can find Leon running along the Anacostia Riverwalk Trail, taking classes at the Capitol City Circus School, or baking his way through Claire Saffitz’s cookbooks.
