Zack Scott is a Lab Fellow in The Lab @ DC and Data Scientist for the Research and Evaluation Branch at the Washington DC Metropolitan Police Department. At MPD, Zack studies the effectiveness of law enforcement initiatives like officer training programs, geographically targeted policing zones, and co-responder pilots.
Prior to working for the DC government, Zack spent three years in academic positions conducting research on political communication, land reform ballot initiatives, and political parties. He’s developed methodological expertise in computational text analysis, survey methodology, and experimental design. He’s published nine articles in the peer-reviewed journals Political Research Quarterly, American Politics Research, Public Budgeting & Finance, Electoral Studies, Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly, and the Journal of Elections, Public Opinion & Parties as well as two book chapters in edited volumes.
Zack earned a B.A. in journalism and political science from Temple University and a Ph.D. in government and politics from the University of Maryland. He likes to spend free time with his family, cooking, reading crime fiction, and suffering due to Philadelphia sports teams.
